Interaction in class

I choose secondary students in an art class, who have been studying English from the school and their levels are between A2 and B1.
I will use a Communicative methodology, introducing an active learning method.
It is essential the students will understand the theory to do successful the practice task. As a teacher, I have to motivate them and to know if they are following me with questions about the task.
Some things that we have to do as teachers are:
  • Connect specific lexis with daily language, and do a brain storming ideas about the topic.
  • I show some pictures. In groups, the students have to choose one and debate what the characteristics of the image are, and after that they explain us. They have to use the specific lexis.
  • When they finish their art work, we will do an art exhibition. Some of them are artists and others are art critics. They have to explain their work and the art critic will say their opinions. They must use all the concepts learned in last lessons.

In relation with the previous list about teaching strategies and how you can use them in a class; we can explain advantages and disadvantages about it.
Do interactive tasks help the students to communicate with them and express their ideas. For example, in a brain storming ideas, they will feel free to say something that they think about the topic without any negative feelings like embarrassment or afraid to do a mistake.
When they work in groups, they could feel confidence with your partners to show their opinions, and when they share ideas they learn values like respect and know ways to do the task.
The third step, play a role in an art gallery. They will communicate together and they will feel free to explain their opinions.
Nevertheless, there are disadvantages in these strategies because they can cause arguments among the students.

Teachers have to watch the behaviour of the students and avoid negative situations.

Corpora

In these webs you can know where you can use the sentences that you are looking for.
For example GO ON.

Thesaurus

I have obtained synonyms and antonyms about nowadays.
When you are looking for synonyms or antonyms you have to think that if you change the word your sentences must to have the same meaning.
For example:
Nowadays, there are a lot of cars.
Currently, there are a lot of cars.

Dictionaries

I chose a word (nowadays) to look for in these three different dictionaries merrian-webster dictionary, oxford dictionary and wordreference.
I could read in merrian-webster, you can see the definition, examples, synonyms, antonyms in the same page. This is very comfortable. In this same page you can see some options like quiz and games, the word of the day for entertaining you and learn at the same time.
About oxford dictionary, you can look for the mean of the word, and you can click in some options like synonyms, grammar, explore. Here you can play too and know about different topics.
I use wordreference to look for the mean of the same word but at the beginning you have to select your option English definition, English-Spanish, English synonyms, etc. It is a disadvantage but at the same time is an advantage because you can translate some words in different languages.
The disadvantage that I have found is the publicity. It is around the web and sometimes it is difficult to find some options of the web.

I usually use wordreference and oxford dictionary to know the mean of the words and translated them in Spanish. I didn’t know the merrian-webster. It is a useful dictionary but I prefer oxford dictionary than this because I know how I have to use the web and I like it.

Finally, I try again to look for the same word in other dictionary and I find the same result, but only with the mean.
The http://www.learnersdictionary.com/ is simpler than the last dictionaries, but the definitions it is very similar with the others dictionaries.

Games from dictionaries

In the last dictionaries you can play and learn at the same time. For example, in Oxford you can play a game where you listen to a word and after that you write it. Merrian-webster has games too. In this web you can play and learn vocabulary. It is very interesting.
Educación plástica y visual. 1º ESO.

According with the Decree 112/2007, in the subject Educación plástica y visual, the students will learn how can do their own art work and all the ways where we can express artistically, in the 1st and 2nd  sections.
In the third and fourth, they will know the geometry.
And finally, in the fifth section, they will have a complete knowledge about the subject.
Educación plastica y visual is a subject where I use a high visual support to explain the activity that is what makes easier to understand it.
In this subject the students will know lexis like colour, geometry, built, draw, visual message, record and other new vocabulary that they will learn in each class with repetitions, speak slowly and say some words to know if the students can follow me, and non-verbal communication for example body language, flash cards and digital board. I think If I use all these tools they will be able to understand the subject. For example, they can watch a video in English about Thanksgiving and after that they can do a comic about this video.  http://www.godtube.com/watch/?v=KYPK77NX
Compare the expected competence of the students with the list of linguistic exchanges you compiled for the first exercise. Is it coherent?
Yes, because my students can understand me If I speak slowly I repeat the main words and use non-verbal communication at the same time I speak. The teacher will do a high work but finally the students will learn a lot. Nowadays, the teachers of preschool do that with valencian language and at the end of the course the students know all the concepts and do the activities.
What about the use of specific language? Is this type of language part of the scales for levels A1 and A2? Compare to level B2 in the general grid.
No, it isn’t the specific language part of the levels A1 and A2 because in these levels the students have to know daily vocabulary and they can understand or say anything out of this lexis. However, a student with level B2 can understand extended speech, read current newspaper, explain an opinion about that in a conversation or in a composition.

For this reason the teachers in secondary school must to know it and they have to make exercises with this level and introduce in each class new vocabulary.

ICT to help teachers

Video from youtube. Here, you can watch how you can connect Art with ICT

In this video you can learn about some art programs and how you can use them with your students.

If you want to know more about the program Resource Review, you can look for information in this link:

learned blog? educational blog? class blog?

I am doing a blog about an art subject in relation to ICT.

A blog is a communication tool that could be helpful in educational process because students can share contents and interact, making learning easier and more enjoyable.
I am learning about what things I have to know before doing a blog by reading some information from different sources about: what is a blog; the advantages; the main rules; how my students can communicate artistically with their works.
Now, I show you the purpose of my blog:
Firstly, with this blog, my students can share their materials, ideas and opinions.
Secondly, parents can stay in touch with what is going on class.
Thirdly, this blog is an instrument or resource to ease the communication with our students out of the classroom.
Fourthly, the students will appreciate their own art work. They will upload it with a small description and opinion about it.
Finally, I advise you to contribute to this blog in order to convert it in a key tool for the development of the students. It is a different way to communicate with them.

3D with Zim&Zou

Welcome everybody to my new blog.
Currently, I am working as a monitor in a primary school and I am studying English at Language School in Benidorm.
I was working as an au pair in Winchester and in London too. I went to UK because I wanted to improve my English.
I like new technologies and I think they are a great progress in our educational system.
I studied art and design and I would like to share with you some information about art and education.

Zim&Zou was formed by Lucie Thomas and Thibault Zimmermann. They work with different fields including paper sculpture, installation, graphic design, illustration.Rather than composing images on a computer, they prefer creating real objects with paper and taking photos out of them.Their choice of paper is due to the versatility and good quality of the material, especially when it is sculpted and photographed.
